lightening bug catch and release

'tis the season.

tomorrow morning we're off on the long drive north to meet a new baby niece and visit with some friends and family for a few days.  I was out in the garden this morning realizing how very many things I should tend to before we go- netting the elderberries so birds don't get them all, going on a mad hunt for cucumber beetles and bean beetles and cabbage loopers, deeply watering a few things and freezing a load of greens.  but.

but instead today there was house cleaning (mostly the rental), packing, a library trip to stock up on some books on cd for her in the car, a long-promised trip downtown to watch a dance company practice in the park, miscellaneous errands, and quite a bit of ignoring other things that needed to be done.  like the garden stuff.  it is HOT out there, folks!  so hot that when we got home from our trip to town the only reasonable snack was ice cream.

and now, if we're to eat dinner this evening, I best order some takeout rather immediately.

  3. Today it was 104. The girls went swimming all day. But you do get to say it's hot when you have 60-90% humidity. That stuff is just awful.

    1. it was maybe 92 here, but yes the humidity is ridiculous- often hovering between 85 and 100%. I remember being out in the Grand Canyon in July and it was 128 degrees but it felt about the same as a 90/95 degree grossly humid eastern day. your girls certainly have the right idea! we played in the splash fountain a bit today and visited a local swimming hole yesterday. water, water, inside and out.

  4. Ignoring jobs that need doing is good. Your daughter is only that age for such a short while enjoy her while you can. Have a great trip making some wonderful memories to treasure.

  8. We have had so many fire flies in the evening these days. I LOVE it. And I also love that moment right when the sun descends beyond the horizon that the crickets all start to sing at once. Ah!!! It's the little things. I'd love to capture the fire fly show with my camera one evening.
