bedecked

the tree is up and decorated.  (her wee little tree is still on the porch, propped just so with the trunk in a small cooler full of water, awaiting a stand of some sort.  tomorrow will be the day, I think)  that teeny little mouse-in-a-walnut ornament is one of my favorites from childhood.  my mom made it I suppose 30 years ago or so.  LOVE it.  peppermint bark got made.  I had an eager helper.  also, some lavender coconut tapioca pudding.  Rudolph.  cards for friends.  it's a busy time, but a good-busy time.  we're taking things a day at a time, soaking in the season a bit here and there.  coming up this weekend are a soup swap (I'm hosting a small gathering to get some photos and ideas together for my upcoming contribution to Heather's Hibernate workshop, which I am very honored to be a part of), our annual trip to go see The Nutcracker, and I'm attending my first ever cookie exchange.  'tis the season!

    1. oh it is yummy, for sure. and yes it is certainly a busy time- I try to keep it as slow and intentional as I can, so as not to overwhelm ourselves. I am not always successful, of course ;)

Congratulations on being a part of Hibernate, that is wonderful!

    1. good idea- making a smaller batch. I always do the full recipe and it is definitely a large amount of bark if it is staying around here.

thank you! I was very honored to be asked, and am excited to be a part of it!

    1. thanks! at first I was going to have her just make her own cards for her friends and then I'd make the others, but now she's making them all and I love them! I've been taking photos of them and will probably share more here.

oh geez- well thank you. though I should say I've got quite the struggle (obviously not a struggle compared to what others go through in non-first-world places, but a pain to me..) with those dry red patches under my eyes and above my brows. I've recently discovered that a gluten-free diet pretty much eliminates my inflamed skin issues (which I've had for years), which has been easy enough the past couple months up until right about now. the cookies! the cornbread! the warm loaves! ah…… I think in January I'll go back to the GF thing, but for now I'll take the red skin and holiday treats ;)

    1. in the spirit indeed! her little cards give me the biggest smile. I love them way more than any crafty thing I was thinking of coming up with. and oh that little walnut mouse…… my mom was here today and said she'd wished she'd made more (there is this one and a little blue one she made for my brother), so maybe we'll have to do just that.
