pollywogs
in addition to all of those plants, yesterday we brought home a bag full of pollywogs and a couple of water hyacinths. no, I don't really usually call them pollywogs. I call them tadpoles. of course. but there are so few times that I have reason to say 'pollywog' and it is kind of a fun word to say, so that is what I'm going with. there are six of them, maybe seven. I am very much hoping that I am fit to raise half a dozen pollywogs, and that this all ends well. she is into Frog and Toad these days, so this should be fun.

Pollywogs (tadpoles) - such fun! Enjoy :)
ReplyDeletewill do! according to my neighbor they are very sensitive (being amphibians and all) and like to eat boiled lettuce, so there may be more to it than I thought when I scooped them into a ziploc and whistled away from the small garden pond they were in. but now there's a tub of water sitting out to allow the chlorine to dissipate, and I suppose I'll google tadpole food later on.....
Delete"Pollywogs" - definitely! Now you're going to have to keep us updated on their lives, because I will want to know!
ReplyDeleteThank you SO much for commmenting on my blog yesterday- I cannot believe you know this yellow house on Ocracoke too! I've had my eye on it for years! And how neat that you worked on Ocracoke for the Park Service and Ride the Wind! We bought a used kayak from Ride the Wind about 13 or 14 years ago after going on one of their "Eco-Tours". Did you lead those?
About Camp Wilderness- I am familiar with "Camp Eagle" - but Camp Wilderness is a different camp?
I am very much hoping that they have long happy lives and that I have plenty of opportunities to provide updates~
Deleteyou are welcome- it truly is one of my favorite places to be. if only it were a bit closer.... we are in the same state, yet it takes just shy of 10 hours to actually set foot on the island! still, I've tried to go at least once a year, sometimes twice, (occasionally missed a year) ever since that summer. I worked there the summer of 2000. I mostly worked at the rental booth, sometimes in the store, and led a handful of the sunset kayak tours. the park service job was my main gig, but I worked at Ride the Wind to make a little extra cash.
the camp is Wilderness Adventure at Eagle Landing, it is in New Castle, VA.
cheers!
so cute, (and pretty i think! i love water gardens.)
ReplyDeletemy older one is into frog and toad too.
LOVE those books.
XO
this is my first water garden of any kind, and certainly a miniature one at that. but I think maybe I'm hooked. they had all sorts of fun water garden examples at the greenhouse...... maybe her fairy house needs a small pond?
DeleteI hear there's going to be a frog and toad performance around here this summer- can't wait to take her to see it!
