I just got the whole series from a friend and have another friend willing to lend the whole set so that Mike and I can read them together and have a little book club-esque experience of our own. I've heard mixed reviews on the 2nd and 3rd books, but I'll give them a go~ I know I'll want to see the film since a lot of it was filmed around here, so I figure I need to read them first!
I really did love it. I got it from the library after seeing good reviews and just briefly reading about it, unaware of the tragic story. I found some of it difficult to read (emotionally, as a mother) and I'm sure you can relate. Knowing what was coming, I waited to read the chapter where it all went down until I had Claire sleeping in my arms during a nap. Just couldn't read it before going to bed with her across the house (and we have a pretty small house). I feel like that may sound a little strange, but that you know exactly what I mean, too.
I also hadn't put together the Eliot Coleman/Nearings connection until a chapter or so into the book. That made it all the more enticing. I enjoyed some of the funnier stories about the Nearings, too. The bits about going south for the winters and ordering in a ton of their food. Good for the soul to know people are all just people, ya know?
The Hunger Games!! Also on my list is The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.
