a chronicle of our days and half-time efforts at (sub)urban homesteading, musings on parenting, and a whole lot of the mundane, humdrum bits.

farm school
Wednesday mornings (9am-1pm) are now farm school mornings. we enrolled Claire in a weekly Animal Science class for K-3 (or, almost K in her case) at the nearby Adelbert Farm. so far, so great. she LOVES it. loves the pigs and piglets, the chickens, the ducks and turkeys, the baby chicks... the games, the creek, the friends. on the first day she gave us a total stink-eye when we showed up to get her, and then she started crying. she did not want to leave farm school. yesterday they learned all about animal bones and she came home with a backbone made out of noodles and cotton. very cute.
she takes her backpack and all its contents quite seriously, and I'm not allowed to forget to pack her awesome purple sunglasses. just in case, mama.

Wow - Can I go to farm school too? What a great opportunity!
ReplyDeleteI know, right? I am tempted to stay and play and make noodle spines with her!
DeleteHow fun!
ReplyDeleteshe LOVES it!
DeleteOh, I love this. And, is her classroom space a yurt? Also, I love your dress. Such a pretty mama!
ReplyDeleteyes, a yurt! and they have recently finished a second classroom space as well- a wooden structure that is probably about 12 x15 or so. it is primarily a workshop for hands-on building and carpentry sort of classes, I believe.
Deleteoh thank you :)
ps- the folks who rented the cabin to you when you stayed here are a farm school family!
Haha. Love the sunglasses. So funny how they have that "something" they have to bring. :)
ReplyDeleteshe is funny. I don't think she's worn them at all there, but something about them being in her backpack seems to make her feel better about going off to school!
DeleteWhat a great opportunity, sounds like great fun.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad to have this place nearby. I can see it becoming a part of her schooling for years to come.
DeleteThat farm school seems great. I might check it out for my little one who is almost K.
ReplyDeleteso far we are really liking it! it's probably about the same distance for you as it is for us. how old is your almost kindergartener? Claire will be 5 in late January.
DeleteHe'll be 5 in December. I looked into it again, but I don't think the days will work out for us. I want to go out and visit the farm sometime with kids. Glad you all are enjoying it!
Deletethat is absolutely adorable!! what a wonderful place for learning... farm school... so perfect! and the purple sunglasses just in case... LOVE!!!
ReplyDeleteI'm really glad we went for it. I went back and forth for a long while but she is really liking it and it allows her another opportunity to spread her wings without mama and papa. (which I *kind of* like ;)
DeleteWhat a great learning opportunity - I wish I could attend something like that! And wish we had a place like that around here for my little babe. It is great that your daughter loves it so much.
ReplyDeletethe children of a friend of ours started going there a couple years ago and they really enjoyed it. they happen to be be buddies of Claire's, so that helped immensely with easing her through the transition of previously only having a 30 minute ballet class and now going to a 9am-1pm class without us. I like that she has her own special thing that she gets to do without us.
DeleteWhat fun! I want to go to farm school! :)
ReplyDeleteme too!
Deletewhat a fun school! I would have liked that :)
ReplyDeleteme too, Karen!
