homemade strawberry jam-filled doughnuts from Doughnut Plant on West 23rd, right next door to the Chelsea Hotel. yumyumyum. honestly, I thought maybe I could just kept eating doughnuts for 2 days.
yummy fried chicken, kale, mac and cheese and watermelon lemonade at Dirty Bird on west 14th. delicious food. and not-so-dirty (humanely raised) chicken.
a flight of beers along with part of the Brazil/Mexico game at 508 Gastrobrewery on a hot afternoon
yummy, greasy, very likely 'dirty' food in Chinatown.
because Chinatown.
a decent apple in June? say what? yes, this crisp and juicy beauty was purchased from a Hudson Valley apple grower selling at the Union Square market, and it was delicious. stored in a very very cold room with no moisture, they keep quite well it seems. this was my pre-breakfast, and it tasted like an October day.
and then lunch. pie for lunch (not after lunch, oh no- it was the main event) at four and twenty blackbirds. one slice chamomile buttermilk custard, one slice salted caramel apple. one coffee, one cold brewed iced coffee. oh my. yes please all over again.
wedding ice cream
bagels and coffee, and yogurt on nana's back deck
and then home, where the raspberries are really coming in~
the peas and potatoes, too~
we had a great time away, but as always, it's good to be home~
also, because it's our ninth wedding anniversary....
and...... I have a guest post (about shifting into a summer state of mind) up over at Gypsy Forest today~ Stephinie is up in Alaska and has a handful of bloggers filling up her space for the next couple of weeks. I'm excited to become acquainted with some new (to me) bloggers and see what everyone has to share about summer.
and..... I will soon be organizing a second blog swap (thinking having list together in the next week or two and having things go out end of July). be sure to let me know as soon as you can whether or not you'll be interested, as I'm thinking about capping it off around 40 or 50 this time around. links to the first blog swap here and here.

Good morning! What a time you've had! Everything looks wonderful, especially that pie! Buttermilk pie tops my list of things I love, especially with raspberries. Nice to see you had a great time - happy anniversary!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Amanda! I've never made buttermilk pie before, but that was verrry tasty- the chamomile was subtle, but delicious. I bet it'd be good with lavender, too!
DeleteI am definitely in for another blog swap! I love trying new food joints when I travel. All of the food looks delicious. Oh - and happy anniversary!
ReplyDeletePS - my email is kjramstack at yahoo dot com in case you need it for the blog swap.
Deletegot it- great! I'll probably write a post about it next week and see what happens. I'm the same way with eating and traveling- for us it's all about exploring and eating, eating, eating!
Deleteyum, yum, yum. you've been eating well! did you really have to post a picture of that donut? i can't quite get it out of my thoughts now! :) and the fried chicken and mac and cheese (i'm southerner through and through) and chinatown. oh, i love nyc. and then all the fresh stuff from the garden. homey, home, home. delicious post through and through.
ReplyDeleteoh it was SO good! I almost dragged Mike back into the donut place on the way back up to Penn Station the following day, to get a bunch to take back to his parents' place. but I put on the blinders and kept on walking. NOT easy. yumyumyum foodfoodfood!
DeleteHappy Anniversary. This all looks so good. I especially love the look of the custard tart it's the only desert that I cannot resist. The grits and egg look scrumptious too.
ReplyDeletethank you, Debby~ oh the grits were excellent- all creamy and ramp pesto-y! I think I need to try to make them like that at home, soft boiled egg and all.
DeleteAll of your food looks so so so good, it makes me want to travel and eat! Happy anniversary :)
ReplyDeletetraveling and eating go hand in hand, don't they? thank you, Karen!
DeleteThose rasberries! Amazing.
ReplyDeletemy favorite part about them is that the season lasts at least a few weeks! plenty of time to get my fill of fresh ones and make a boatload of jam!
DeleteHappy Anniversary!
ReplyDeletethank you!
DeleteAwesome food pictures! I haven't had my breakfast yet and those pies and berries are looking darn delicious! I would be interested in a swap, depending on what we are swapping.
ReplyDeletethank you Katie! oh my, I love eating when we travel, I think it's my favorite part of going new places. the exploring and such too, of course- but mostly the eating ;)
DeleteI hosted a blogger swap in February, based loosely off of the kind of swaps I host here at home. there are a few links in the post above to other posts that describe the swap in detail, but generally we swap utilitarian/edible goods that are handmade/homemade/homegrown by YOU. think jams, honey, salves, lotions, soap, knit/crocheted dishcloths, sewn goodies, etc. things that are useful and widely appealing. you send things to someone and get things from someone else. you can look in the comments section of the links above to see what folks had to say about it! I'd love to have you join in, and I'll post about it this coming week!
Happy anniversary! Me and my husband celebrated our on monday, 23rd, June is such a great month for weddings!!! What a yummy trip you had, if I ever come to New York, I'll put on ten kgs in only one week!!!
