while we were up in jersey for our friend's wedding we fit in a few other things as well. while papa and much of his family were at a phillies game on father's day, she and I took a ride over to Howell Farm, a place we go to at least once every time we're up.
a couple days later, we woke up and got ready (papa and I) to head into NYC for a day and a half. it was a quick trip, but we had a ton of fun basically walking all over and eating our way around lower manhattan. we ate leisurely, walked wherever our whims took us, explored the high line and the waterfront, watched the president's motorcade pass by, checked out the world trade center museum (free on tuesdays and, as one would expect, quite intense) and got somewhat acquainted with the subway system into brooklyn. below is a photo of Claire's bed at nana's house, and of her and nana watching our train pull in to take us to the big city.
and from here on, way more photos than you'd likely care to see of our NYC explorations. the clock in the chelsea market, part of the high line, buildings old and buildings new, a far-away statue of liberty, a few glimpses in and around the WTC museum and memorial (massive fountains at each building's footprints- wow) the view from the roof of the apartment we rented for the night (which we later learned we weren't really supposed to go up on..... we country mice have no clue about NYC roof access rules, and luckily it wasn't a problem, our host through airbnb just said 'let's keep that to ourselves' when I asked about whether or not I should mention the awesome roof in my review). we also walked around the union square market on wednesday morning before heading over into brooklyn for breakfast. breakfast and pie. lots of food photos in the last post, if you want them.
It looks like it was an amazing time Amanda and I loved all the photos, but my favorite is the first one, really makes me want a cow :)
ReplyDeletethanks, Tracey! oh wouldn't that be sweet........
DeleteLove the pictures of the farm - great textures and colors! And you managed to make NYC look like a place I might want to visit someday - it actually looks pretty!
ReplyDeletethank you, Katie~ it is such a beautiful place to spend a few hours just wandering around, we really love it there. and NYC was quite fun, too! I hadn't been in a while (we actually used to go there all the time for high school field trips to restaurants and theater and museums, but of course I had an entirely different perspective and appreciation of things then) and was very pleased with our quick trip. I told Mike I could see myself happily living there for a month.
DeleteFantastic pictures Amanda!
ReplyDeletethanks, Erin!
DeleteI felt like I was on a trip as I scrolled through the photos, I think you had a great get away and now, isn't it nice to be home in your own bed and house? that is what I like most of vacations, the coming home part :)
ReplyDeletemost definitely nice to be home, yes! the garden exploded while we were gone (and thankfully it rained enough to keep it going well) and I'm settling into a summer frame of mind. I think that's why I love taking photos so much- I'm so nostalgic and want/need to be able to just look at photos and put myself right back into certain times and memories. I keep looking at these and taking a trip myself ;)
DeleteI have a special place in my heart for NYC because it's where my dad is from- where his parents immigrated to when he was just a little boy. I still have family there, too. It's a magical place.
ReplyDeleteXO
magical, indeed. I told Mike I'd like to live there for a month some time to really soak it in and explore.
