a chronicle of our days and half-time efforts at (sub)urban homesteading, musings on parenting, and a whole lot of the mundane, humdrum bits.

chockablock
yes, chockablock. such a fun and rarely used (at least in my world) word. a very full weekend just happened in these parts. and it didn't even involve any driving out to the hospital, a first in over a month and a half of weekends, I believe. which isn't to say that she has been moved out of the hospital and into the (rather nearby to me) rehab hospital yet, as we'd hoped would happen last week. because she hasn't. in fact, she moved back to ICU (yes, really) for a few days instead. but she's back out of there now, maintaining things well and so we're hoping to be back on board for a transfer soon, soon. come on mama, let's get moving!
what with all the chockablock-ness and sunshine this weekend, I've got little energy now to ramble on like I usually do, and seeing as how I have a hard time keeping things brief (if you are my husband, or if you've ever been on the receiving end of a voicemail from me then you know this) otherwise, I'm making a list. a list of the goodness that filled our weekend so.
-Saturday early (for a weekend morning, anyway) a.m. bike ride to ballet class (via a rummage sale where I scored two boxes of mason jars for $2.50)
-on the way home from ballet we basked in the opening day of the fantastic tailgate market in our town. music, hot drinks, fresh pastries, good folks and friendly conversation, kids chasing each other around the field..... I am so, SO glad it's market season again
-caught our first ever swarm(!) and got them settled into a top bar hive we just happened to have, thanks to a friend who gifted it to us last fall
-rode the bikes back to town for the grand opening of a new (well, under new ownership) farmer's market/natural foods store. more music & sunshine. more laughing with friends, and some wandering about the (complete with herb spirals, rain barrels and chickens) gardens. there is a plan to add a juice and coffee bar, and much more. methinks it all sounds quite promising
-home. laundry on the line. painted supers to add to the hives soon.
-finished off an eventful day with dinner/drinks/merriment at our friends' place
-Sunday is easy. Sunday involved me waking early to bake muffins and then working on hanging our annual art show (for the after school art program I work with) at the public library here in town. from about 9:15 a.m. until 5:30 a.m. well over a thousand pieces of art are now covering the walls and even parts of the ceiling and many tabletops in the multipurpose room of the library. Claire split the day hanging with her (our) good friends and watching videos (Frozen and Kid's Yoga, a good balancing act there, I think) at the library while I worked. we came home and sat in the remaining sunbeams in the backyard and ate mango popsicles before dinner. as you just sometimes have to do. and now I'm off to read some more of How Yoga Works and settle in, body feeling contentedly tired from the bike rides and sunshine and the up-and-down all day of hanging the art show.

Chockablock, a new word for me...I like it!
ReplyDeleteThat is an amazing find on the mason jars, I can't believe how expensive they have gotten over the years.
I'm so sorry about your mama, but hopefully soon she will be nearer to you and I that will be the best medicine ever.
I always find something great at this particular rummage sale, and this year it was simply a couple boxes of jars.
DeleteI can't wait for her to be closer (15 minutes vs 2 hours), hopefully sometime this week. what a long crazy road this has turned into!
I hope your mom gets transferred to the rehab hospital soon for the next step to recovery. Love how you are able to bike to places-our area isn't very bike friendly and we are way way out of the town limits.
ReplyDeleteI am hopeful that she will soon, and know that once she's there she'll start taking some big steps towards wellness!
DeleteI love it too, even if that 'grass is greener' part of me sometimes creeps in and wishes we were way out of town on lots of land. but for now, I'm embracing this.
Love that word! I am so adding it to my vocabulary.
ReplyDeleteme too! or at least I'll try to use it occasionally and will probably feel very silly. but that's good, too ;)
DeleteSweet pond! I want a bigger one I can easily drain with a hose around the yard. Was it hard to make?
ReplyDeletenope! (well, maybe I should ask Mike......) bought the pond itself for $20 at a yard sale, Mike dug a hole and placed it in then filled around it. the rocks aren't really set in place yet and we need to landscape around it, but it's coming together. next step is plants, then fish. probably not really ducks...
Deleteso sorry to hear about your mama. it sounds like you had an amazing weekend.
ReplyDeletethanks~ I keep reminding myself that we are still in a much better place than we were a month or two ago, and I'm confident that soon she'll be nearby and ready to take bigger steps towards recovery.
Deletewe did have a good weekend, but good grief I'm not used to so much action!
Thanks for your well wishes, just starting to feel a little better. Sounds like a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteglad you're feeling better~ oh it was a very good and full weekend, and most definitely more action packed than usual!
Deletesorry to hear your mom didn't get moved but at least, she is out of the icu and hopefully stays out of the icu!
ReplyDeleteoh yes I very much hope so! I am learning not to have expectations. or, more accurately, I am learning to not get too attached to my expectations. we'll see what this week brings~
DeleteLike the pond too. And that your mother is ok. You have so much energy.
ReplyDeletethanks, Rachel~ yes, so good that she is overall improving and will very soon be so close by to me (and my brother).
Deleteooph. well, it was a full weekend indeed and I rolled with it pretty well, but typically I'm a sloooooooooow mornings and lazy weekend type. good to shake things up a bit, I suppose. I figure often I'm happy to just stay home and not do anything, but when I do go and do them, I hardly ever regret it.
so glad for the weekend you had! i can imagine you are enjoying your bike these days! does claire enjoy riding in the back? one day, i'm gonna visit the BM farmer's market -- and that new health store sounds so fun too! good times!
ReplyDeleteI am enjoying it very much, and trying to use it as often as possible so that I get stronger riding it around our somewhat hilly town. add a 4 year old, a bag full of library books and snacks, and a box full of who-knows-what and I'm often moving pretty slowly. Claire will ask "why are you going so slow now, mama?" when we're riding up a hill. even a moderate hill, and she can tell a big difference. I always tell her it's because mama is working hard. whew. she LOVES it. it's a free and fun ride, after all ;)
Deletethe market is open now through Halloween-ish...... I bet you have a good one near you, too, don't you?
xo
Sounds like a great weekend! I hope your mom gets out of the hospital soon and recovers well. I will be at BM market this Saturday with Farmer Jane Soap. Hope to meet you there!
ReplyDeleteit was a great (and enormously full- whew!) weekend. looked for you at the market, but I knew the man at the table wasn't you ;). our kids at art class are performing at LEAF this Saturday morning so I'll be missing market~ but I will look for you again next weekend!
Deleteoh I've got high hopes she'll make it to Asheville this week, fingers crossed!
