winter fun

polar vortex.  snow days.  wind chills below zero.  actual temperatures in the single digits.  hot cocoa.  cookies.  soup.  stoking the fire in the wood stove.  constantly running fresh water out to the chickens.  little cat prints in the snow.  sledding in the street with neighbors.  wondering what this all means for sugaring season.  yeah, it's been cold here, too.  in more recent days we've warmed up quite a bit, but here are some images from our cold and fun times over the last week or so~

  2. That looks like such a fun way to celebrate winter. Now if you could just send a little bit of snow south I would greatly appreciate it. :)

    1. if I could I would, Tracey! I don't suppose you get too much in SC~ even though we're just one state north, we're up a bit in elevation where we are, so that helps a ton.

  3. Looks like you had a blast! I remember sledding with our girls when they were younger and they always loved it. Of course it helped that mom or dad always dragged the sled back up the hill. ;-)

    1. our road was pretty mellow for sledding- perfect for the kids and for a test run on the old wood sled with metal runners. the hill with the pictures of the grown ups whooshing by (and crashing) was a friend's neighbor's driveway up on a mountain. THAT one was fun. and a little scary. but I'm a bit of a sledding wuss, I think ;)

    1. okay so here's what we do..... you come over here in the next few days and help collect maple sap and boil it down, and then we'll go sledding. then, I'll come out to California and go to the beach with you and eat lemons right off your own (not living in a pot inside and totally stunted and confused) lemon tree. let's do it!
