this and that

a couple days ago I opened the mailbox to find a tidy little package inside addressed to me. it was a thank you from one of the ladies participating in the swap, Elizabeth.  two lovely cards and a lavender sachet.  thank you, Elizabeth.  thank you all for participating~  I can't wait to read and see more about how this swap is going for you, and to see the goodies being shipped around the country!

speaking of which, I figured, as host and all (ahem) that maybe I needed to get on the ball and ship mine.  here's a peek at what's inside.  lip balm and herbal vapor rub, a handful of photo cards, blueberry jam, and a couple of crocheted cotton dishcloths.

I hope she likes them, as Tracey put it.

the snow has melted, we've been collecting a bit more sap, and this weekend we enjoyed the company of some wonderful family visitors.  Claire's nana, her (great) aunt Mary, and her aunt Jen all came down for a few days.  we chatted, ate, played games (this one is a new favorite!), took Claire to her first movie in the theater (yes, it was Frozen), and went to the Biltmore Estate.  I also made a batch of the rooibos chai from the Hibernate workshop, and the granola from The Homemade Pantry.  yum, yum, yum. before I was pretty much a black-tea-only kind of chai drinker, but this is really wonderful.

if you're participating in the swap, feel free to share links to your swap posts either here or in the comments of the swap on post.

cheers~

    1. I was never a big fan of rooibos before- thought it was little too floral for my early grey and english breakfast palate. BUT, this is so yummy. with all of the chai spices, I can hardly tell the difference and if anything, it's a pleasant one at that.

Biltmore is amazing. We upgraded our tickets to season passes when Mike's folks treated us to a visit there last Spring. we don't go very often, but I always enjoy it when we do. we really should go more before the passes expire!

we DID like it. I hadn't seen any previews or anything, but kept hearing how good it was and so when other plans during our visit fell through Mike, his sister and I decided to take her to see it. I thought it was pretty sweet, surprisingly socially aware, funny, and I liked that the women (girls, women) were strong characters.

Thanks for the recommendation on the granola, I've gone through a few recipes and can't quite find the right one so I'll check it out!

    1. if all goes well this time around (very few kinks thus far) I could see myself hosting a swap a couple times a year, maybe. LOVE her granola. I also really like the one out of Heidi Swanson's Super Natural Every Day cookbook, but my husband isn't so fond of the orange peel (silly man) so I tried a new one. not that I couldn't just leave out the orange, but it was fun to try a new one.
