flowers and puppies

after a trip to the market with Claire this morning for some treats and socializing, I picked this summer's first large backyard bouquet.  it was for my mama.

I love zinnias.  they are such simple and humble flowers, and so incredibly vivid.  and truly I can't look at them without smiling.  I met someone once who said her mother only grows three things in her garden:  basil, tomatoes, and zinnias.  as much as I love having a wide variety in my garden, I can understand the drive to grow just a few things and grow them well.

we had a nice visit with my mom and her husband.  and their two dogs and seven puppies.  five of which are currently seeking a loving home.  this here is little Leo.  he immediately plopped himself in my lap and stole my heart.  but.  BUT.  we are not in the market for a puppers right now.  but oh gosh that little Leo.....

and this little guy here they are calling Tank for the time being.  because he just kinda pushes his way over everything and anyone and plops wherever he pleases.  and of course he gets away with it- just look at him!  little brown nose and greenish grey eyes and silky soft fur...... a gentle and very endearing little tank, for sure.  all seven of them running and tumbling over each other in order to greet us when we arrived?  that was painfully adorable.

but I'm strong.  we aren't getting a puppy.  we aren't getting a puppy.  we aren't getting a puppy.....

    1. thank you! I've been enjoying looking at the flowers and picking one or two here and there, but not until yesterday did I realize it was full-on bouquet time around here. we really aren't getting one~ as much as I'd like to think I feel up to right now, I know I'm (we're) not. BUT, I may try to persuade my mama to keep little Leo around.

  3. good luck not getting a puppy! All I have to do to resist is think of training. I'll just enjoy my Frodo for now :) Love the photos and zinnias are not in my garden and should be!

    1. we've been dog-free for almost a year now, after making the decision to re-home our dog Wolfie who, at nearly 12 and losing vision, and being a shepherd-husky mix who was previously mistreated by children, wasn't a great mix for a toddler household. now he lives with my dad, whom he adores, and we still get to visit! BUT I think we'll stay dog free for a while longer. tempting as it may be.
      thanks!

    1. a big part of me wishes we really were, but papa is most definitely not on board for the time being, so I must respect that. if only they weren't so damn cute. and soft. and lovable. and snuggly.

    1. thank you! looking out there, at first glance it doesn't seem like there is so much variety, but after walking all around the back and side yard we can come up with quite a mixed bouquet. oh the puppies. I think if I brought the whole litter home the papa may have just moved in at the fire station.

    1. little Leo? I wish. but alas, papa is not on board and really, I think he's probably right. not yet. my mom is keeping a few of them though, so I may try to steer her decision a bit in his (leo's) favor.
