home

oh it feels good to be home.  after two weeks away we are taking our time settling back in and I think that now, after four days back, I've finally got a handle on the laundry and the car is nearly unpacked. the garden is slowly getting brought back to order as I weed and pull dead vines, pick and water, prune and preserve.  the kitchen has been a busy place.  we are taking the mornings slowly and it feels good.  I made a giant batch of granola and a decent size jar of cold brew decaf to quench my thirst for iced coffee.  there is a part of me that smiles at the sand in all of our belongings and thinks maybe I'll just go ahead and rent the house in Maine for a whole month next summer.  and another part of me that screams "no! don't ever leave again! especially not when the green beans and elderberries are at their prime!".  I am, mostly, a homebody.  but oh that house in Maine.  I'll share soon about our time away.  a week in an old house on a tidal cove in coastal Maine, and a handful of days along the jersey shore with family, with a couple other things squeezed in here and there.

right now though, wine and a good book while I listen to the raindrops falling out of the wind-stirred trees and the crickets singing loudly their fleeting summer song.

  2. Funny note, I am deaf above 4,000 hertz and so I can't hear crickets. We have a cricket in the wall in our bedroom closet and my husband is going crazy because he can hear it!

Maine stole my heart last summer when we went for a wedding. So I totally get it!

    1. Oh my gosh I think I'd go nuts with one in my bedroom wall. I like them as part of the general warm summer night 'experience', but also like that I can tune them out with the fan or closed windows if need be. poor guy.

Maine, oh Maine. good stuff. I first visited Maine when I was about 16 or 17 and have been back 4 times since. Seems every five or so years I just have to get back for my fix.

    1. the going and doing can be so good, but the homecoming and catching up bit is pretty sweet, too. at least once it gets to a point that feels manageable ;)
