weekending

the instructor has recently been leaving the door open for a bit of their class, and I've so been enjoying the peeks.  she's got her first recital coming up at the end of the month and we're all pretty excited about it.  after her third horseback riding lesson on Friday my friend commented on her posture and poise up on the horse and it's got me thinking ballet and horseback riding are going to complement each other pretty well.   gosh, I'd love to take ballet and horseback riding.

this Saturday morning was the opening day for our beloved little local tailgate market.  we went right after ballet and were so happily overwhelmed by how many dear friends were all in one place at once, that we stayed until well after the market closed down- just a pile of us sitting in the grass and catching up, watching the kids run and play...... idyllic, really.

doesn't take too much to work up the nerve to go ask for chocolate samples.  after all...... chocolate.

two years ago I purchased a Groupon for two hot air balloon flights as a birthday gift for Mike.  time and scheduling and someone-to-be-with-the-little-one-while-we-were-flying-high never quite worked out until today.  my mom came and stayed over last night so that we could wake before the sun and sneak off to catch the sunrise flight in time.  we drove west and watched as the nearly-full golden moon settled behind the mountains and handed the baton off to the sun.  it was the first time either of us ever went up in a hot air balloon and it was really quite incredible.  I won't pretend to be entirely brave, I was a bit nervous thinking about it beforehand and up until we were about five minutes in.  and then I got over it after getting myself snugged into a cozy corner of the basket, and what an amazing experience.  loads of photos to come in another post, but for now- here's a quick peek:

we came home to some fitting artwork.  a collaboration between Claire and her Beeba.  and then, apple coffee cake and a healthy dose of spring cleaning and garden tending, followed by an outdoor happy-hour with new friends.

    1. there are a couple companies in the Asheville area that take people up for sunrise flights and I purchased two passes on groupon a couple years ago on a whim! It was a lot of fun and I feel a little braver now than I did before ;) I HAD to get a photo of that- he carries them to and from ballet in his back pocket and I always smile big at it when I catch a glimpse. I think framing that one would be perfect, Karen- good idea!

    1. :) he always carries them to and from class like that- I think he has taken on the responsibility himself out of fear that I'd leave them on the counter as I walk out the door. which would be a definite possibility.
