this (cold) morning
a low in the twenties last night, high of thirty-five or so today. it's cold here. the greens are protected under plastic, the wood pile is being visited often, and I had to change out frozen chicken water this morning. it's been a jammies-until-work, sit by the fire all morning drinking tea and reading books kinda morning. our cat, Ziggy, is snuggled up on my bed.
a good sort of morning to have every now and again, I think. or more often, if needed.
papa will be coming back home tomorrow. he promises to bring some bagels from NJ for his little lass who announced she is so, so hungry for bagels. bagels, then. but no venison. and that's just fine.
we girls are talking about making some homemade pumpkin pie tomorrow for his homecoming. there are two big pumpkins on the table and one of them will meet the oven after ballet tomorrow.

Sounds like my kind of morning.
ReplyDeleteslow, easy mornings are indeed the best, aren't they?
DeleteIt Finally turned cold here and I am enjoying hot cups of tea and books too. Sorry about no venison, I wish I could send you some.
ReplyDeletePumpkin pie sounds like a wonderful welcome home treat, enjoy.
'tis the season~ and I am loving it.
DeleteI think he was a bit disappointed, especially after going so far and getting an out-of-state license and all that. but after all is said and done, he got to spend three days alone in a cabin in the woods and then another three days in NJ with his parents and siblings. I do like venison, but will just have to wait :)
the pie is in the oven now~
Cold here in upstate NY too! We even had a bit of snow. Time to bring out the fleece pi's. I love hunkering down though - hot cups of tea, quilts, books - what could be better! Enjoy your bagels.
ReplyDeleteSusan my husband was just up in upstate NY (at my grandpa's place in Chestertown)! he left before the snow, though.
Deletethe hunkering down is splendid. I love an excuse to cozy up by the fire with quilts and tea and books!
Such lovely photography! Don't you just love how it's freezing outside and kids refuse to wear anything but barefeet? :)
ReplyDeletethank you so much- it is definitely my favorite way to document our little world.
Deletetotally! keeping slippers on her feet can be challenging, to say the least.
your photos warm me up :) it's been cold here too... but not quite that cold. i suppose pumpkin pie is on a lot of minds now. we have three little pumpkins that never became jack o lanterns and i was thinking that they should meet the oven this weekend as well :) love your words. that quilt looks sooo cozy. warm thoughts your way friend. -jenny
ReplyDeleteso happy to warm you up, Jenny! I can't remember a November this consistently cold- the low tonight is 17 degrees and the wood stove has been going nonstop for a while now. the woodpile is definitely getting visited a lot more than usual for early-mid November.
DeleteI ended up using canned pumpkin for the pie, having second thoughts on tackling a large jack-o-lantern pumpkin for pie as opposed to a sweet little pie pumpkin. these two are still on the table, and Claire mentions daily that we need to carve them.
We're having a weekend like that here - it feels really nice to have the woodstove blazing!
ReplyDeleteit's going nonstop- what a crazy cold early-to-mid November!
DeleteI love cold, the colder the better, but this cold felt sudden and somewhat unexpected. My husband is a summer guy so he's having difficulty with the season!
ReplyDeleteit DID sneak up~ I cannot recall a November this cold...... and I do so love the bundling and the hunkering down, but wow!
Deletehope your hubby is staying warm and in good spirits!
