her advent calendar is up~ each morning, after stumbling out of bed and making her bleary-eyed rounds, she suddenly remembers it and goes running to the hallway by her room. that first day I wasn't very inspired and just stuck in a dollar bill. she was thrilled and put it right in her piggy bank that won't accept quarters (no quarter sized coins in China, I guess?). some days there are little pieces of paper with clues/ideas for our day (today was "let's ride the bike to the library for story time and get a treat afterwards"), some days there are hair clips, or maybe a tiny Christmas cactus to call her own....
tomorrow it's gonna be a few of those cheap little capsules you stick in warm water and watch as the sponge-animal grows magically right before your very eyes. remember those?
she tried her hand at the alphabet today with no visual prompt. insisted on using a fat blue sharpie. to be sure, she sang the song over and over to get the order right. her upper case E reminds me of the way she draws hands with many, many fingers.
breakfast of choice most days around here is plain yogurt with blueberries, chia seeds, and a drizzle of honey. if it weren't for that and the copious amount of hot tea I drink, our honey might just last a while.
perhaps a switch over to oatmeal with maple syrup will help...... there's still nearly 3/4 of a gallon of syrup, and tapping time isn't so far away... (and yes, I am aware the grocery store sells both of these things)
can't get enough of Phoebe Wall's art. just ordered her calendar tonight, here.
on the way home from the library, after our hot cocoa date, we took some fraser fir greens out of someone's trash (why would you put them in the trash anyway? crazy.) and picked some bittersweet in the woods along the greenway. it's time. tomorrow, some greening- this weekend, I think, a tree.
lovely and your daughter's alphabet is cute, how confident with a sharpie!! have fun getting the tree and decorating :)
ReplyDeleteoh she's all about the sharpies. I think I've got them hidden away and out of reach, but no...... I am excited to get it- I'm feeling it, the holidays and all, but having the tree up gives me that extra kick I need ;)
DeleteLove that E!
ReplyDeleteit's my favorite ;)
Deleteoh my goodness! i am so glad i started following your blog. i love your advent calendar and what great ideas for filling it! i can't tell what it is made out of though... paper? felt? anyway... beautiful... thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeletethank you! it was made last year, late in the evening of November 30th.... super simple and yes, paper. A bit thick, like card stock, and just folded into simple envelopes and either taped together with pretty washi tape, or hole-punched and then tied with yarn. they are then clipped to yarn with little mini clothespins. part of it that I didn't mention is that each day we try to remember to ask her to tell us something that she is thankful for, and then we write it on a little card and put it in the (now empty) envelope. I figured it'd be a sweet little collection to look at later.....
DeleteYour bike is sooo pretty!!! Perfect timing to get it too -- 70 degrees and a new bike -- well, that was just meant to be. I hope you and Claire have enjoyed cruising all over town.
ReplyDeletethank you! it really is quite pretty.... they come in lime green as well and I thought (briefly) that I *should* get that because it's 'more fun', but no- I like the white. It's been cooooooold lately, so we've not ridden a lot the last week, but we've taken it around a good bit and filled the bag up with all sorts of goodies.
