a chronicle of our days and half-time efforts at (sub)urban homesteading, musings on parenting, and a whole lot of the mundane, humdrum bits.

visit with great grandpa
nearly 92 years between them. I was amazed at how he so easily fell into step with being just how she needed him to be, and not the (well-intentioned) teasing old man I know he truly is at heart. she still wouldn't climb up onto his lap for a picture, but I'm pretty sure that's just because it wasn't her idea.
he gave her a few twenties for her piggy bank. they had to shove in the folded over bills with a stick. she and I took a little trip to one of our favorite stores in town and we turned part of one of the bills into a real (child sized) metal and wood shovel and new bubbles, which were promptly spilled. the shovel is proving to be lots of fun. she was 'helping' papa as he worked on digging out an area for a low stone wall in the back yard. she even bends her knees and looks like she knows her way around a shovel.

A precious photo of generations! I love how grandparents hand out money to little ones. My children would agonize over how to spend it if they weren't saving it :)
ReplyDeletewe kept most of it in her little bank, and when I asked her if she wanted to get something with part of it she kind of looked at me like she had no clue how to respond. which I suppose is fitting for a three year old who knows very little of shopping and such. she was thrilled with her shovel and bubbles!
DeleteWhat beautiful images and what a sweet post!

That made me laugh! Hahah!
she is like a cat. she needs to be the one to initiate things. and she likes to sneakily watch from the outskirts ;)
