Comet, Leghorn, here to stay
mini mini farm
**We received 2 new hens today, one 13 month old Golden Comet and one 13 month old White Leghorn~ both sweet girls, still waiting to see how Mabel and Pearl feel about it. A quick peek in on the roost tonight showed only them, with one new girl down in a nesting box and the other perched on our fence. (had to explain it's not so safe there, what with the hen-killing dog and all...) Sadly, both new girls came to us already debeaked, apparently from the farmer who sold them to the man we got them from. It threw me off, being something I'd never ever consider doing, but they seem happy and healthy and we'll certainly be good to them. Hens should not be raised in conditions that lead farmers to believe that kind of brutality is necessary. Period. Anyway.... looking forward to getting to know these 2 and to eating some more yummy eggs!
