a full, full cup.

so as I said last time, papa was heading north with Claire for five days and I'd be here.  alone.  I had some ideas of what I wanted do to with the incredibly novel and exciting stretch of solo-mama time.  some things big, some things small.  I am about to head to work and tonight, they'll be home.  I have had an amazing time, but oh I cannot wait to hug that little one so, so tight.  (papa, too, of course)

day one:  sweet (and much easier than I'd anticipated) goodbyes in the driveway after breakfast, and then I headed a few minutes up the road for a 9.6 mile solo hike.  I came home to yard/chicken chores, a beer and a hot shower, takeout (vegetable noodle soup and spring rolls), movies (People, Places, Things and two documentaries), and snuggling with Ollie on the couch.

day two:  on the couch with breakfast, tea, and a book, pajamas until noon (um, because of aforementioned 9.6 mile hike) work, more takeout (sushi), another movie (Eat, Pray, Love- I liked the book, but didn't really love it, but I love the movie.  because Julia Roberts.  and Javier Bardem)

I'd have plans for this yarn.  plans to start a new cowl for me and a hooded cowl for her.  except that it's been 65 degrees and sunny and so cowls aren't so much on my mind.  plus, I got chunky yarn for hers and oops! it calls for super-bulky, and I know there's a way around that but I just feel intimidated...... thinking it will be a birthday gift instead of a Christmas one.

Claire will be proud to see that mama mostly kept up with the spiral while she was away:

day three: breakfast, a meeting with a friend to get measured for a couple skirts and alterations, a 5k trail run, housework, gingerbread cookie baking, work-work, and then a sweet little ladies' night (wine, chocolate, snacks, chatting, adult conversation. yes.) here at my place.  my cup, friends, is full.

day four: I woke to let the chickens out then went back to sleep for a couple (few?) hours.  then out to cut a wee tree for Claire's room (I told her I'd have a surprise for her when she got back) and then a cappuccino and some reading at the coffee shop.  puttered around the house until work and then home for quick tacos before going out to see Brooklyn with a friend.

(watermelon radish snack from the garden)

day five: massage, sauna, a slow easy walk around the lake and then home for lunch: a full pot of garden greens, just for me. tea, some gift-wrapping...... and off to work I go.

hello!

and now they are on their long drive back, and after work tonight I'll come home, get dinner going, and wait.  with a big smile and a full cup and arms so ready to hold them both tight.

    1. I liked it! I hadn't read the book, which probably helped- I find it so hard to watch a movie after reading the book. Though there are some that I've liked very much (Cold Mountain, for one).

  4. oh! watching you go through your solo mama motions makes me really hate this distance... i can so see myself sitting next to you on that couch with a glass of wine in hand :)

i love that your surprising her with a tree! is that little tree in her room? SO sweet!

also, tinctures made it perfectly safe and sound! i am so excited to put them to use. it is really fun seeing something on my desk that i saw sitting on YOUR counter via this blog. makes the distance seem a little shorter :)

  8. I love the flow of your words, Amanda, and what a delicious week! I thought to check in here - I've been pretty atrociously absent online for most of this year - because we are spending Christmas in WNC and I do believe we just passed your exit.

    Merry merry!

    2. Hi! Yup, on 40. My mom and dad live in Sylva and we usually spend Christmas there. And since our move north I usually come down for a long trip in late summer as well, just me and the kids.

Just left NC tonight and we're now headed to Florida to spend New Year's week with my husband's family.
