prepping for solo time

these are all old(er) photos.  they are not relevant to what I'm writing now.  which is that my people are leaving me and heading north next week for five days.  (yes! right smack in the middle of advent and Christmas fun!) papa has vacation and I do not and so he's going up to visit family before the holidays.  he is taking the little one along and here I'll be.  doing............ well,  I don't know.  I think the day they drive up I'll tackle a long hike.  definitely there will be some movie watching, some trail running, some baking (or whatever verb one would use for peppermint-bark-making), and some reading.  thinking about weeding through some of the gingery-brothy-noodley-asiany soup recipes I've pinned and trying some out.  maybe some knitting.  possibly some solo dining out.  certainly lots of fireside tea.

which brings me to my question:  any movie recommendations?  any other mama-is-solo-for-almost-a-week-and-wants-to-take-full-advantage suggestions?  awesome recipes?  podcasts?  incredible cocktails?

lay it on me.

  1. Sit back and enjoy time for yourself. Pamper yourself, have a long bubbly soak in the bath and have a manicure and pedicure. ENJOY!

  2. Wow that sounds incredible! Enjoy it. A few movies I enjoy that are a must this time of year are: Home For The Holidays and A Family Stone. Love them!! On NetFlix there is a program called Fireplace For Your Home, love it!!
As far as baking goes our favorite cookie are: gluten free peanut butter cups placed inside peanut butter cookies-yum!!
I have a bunch of cookie recipes as I totally love cooking and baking!!
    Have a beautiful day!!

    1. I've never seen Home for the Holidays. I do love the Family Stone though. I may watch White Christmas, as Mike isn't a huge fan of the classics...... definitely planning to do some cooking around here and listen to whatever music I want (very loudly).

  4. I'd recommend watching the movie Tracks (available on netflix), one of the best I've ever seen. Also reading the Good Shufu, a book about an american woman relocating to Japan to marry. I couldn't put it down. (Did I actually hear about that book here??) neither are christmassy but it's nice to balance things out.
    Enjoy your time!

    1. I've never heard of either of those- but I'll certainly look into them, thanks! We've got plenty of 'christmassy' here as it is with the tree and imminent baking... so I'm happy to include non-holiday things into the week for sure!

      thank you!

  5. The Holiday and The Family Stone are two of my Christmas favorites! I've been reading tons of Christmas books, and my favorites are by Debbie Macomber. Have a wonderful, restful few days!

  6. You need to make a list of all the music you love that hubby doesn't love as much and play it loudly. I do hope there will be knitting and then showing of knits.

    1. great idea! so..... plenty of the Celtic Christmas pandora station, lots of Van Morrison (whom Mike appreciates but I will gladly listen to his voice all day long), and some girly folk-ish stuff thrown in as well.

oh the knitting.... I purchased some beautiful yarn to make Claire a hooded cowl and have yet to download a pattern and dive in. fingers crossed I can get it started and not totally mess it up!

    1. I have two projects I want to start actually- a cowl for me to replace my favorite one that I seem to have lost (boo!) and a hooded cowl for C for Christmas. I was going to pay Tracey to knit it for me and decided to try myself.... but I still need to get a pattern! (so, it may end up being a birthday present for her next month- I am not an accomplished knitter and it always takes me a while to dive back in)

movies- yes! I've been watching some.
