longest day

We welcomed Summer by picking a pint of raspberries, making a batch cookies, packing a picnic (complete with elderflower cordial, which I find tastes a bit like honeysuckle), and heading to the creek with friends for a few hours.  Claire and a buddy explored their way up the creek for a long, long time.  I sat in the sun and caught up with a friend and listened to the water bubble and gurgle it's way here and there.

Afterwards she and I enjoyed a simple meal on the deck, then lit a fire and roasted marshmallows.  She ran around the yard chasing lightning bugs while I watched the bats zipping around, and we took a nice long look at the big full strawberry moon before turning in.

Welcome, Summer.

    1. thank you! I made a simple icing using powdered sugar and milk with a little lemon peel, then we topped them with herbs and flowers from the garden (fennel, calendula, chamomile, lavender, rosemary...). they were these cookies, altered a bit to make them gluten-free: https://gathervictoria.com/2016/06/10/sweet-magic-summer-solstice-honey-cookies/
